Long story short

Note-Tweek Labs has since been acquired by Ultrahuman.

I redesigned the mobile experience for Tweek Labs, a biomechanics platform that helps cricketers analyze their bowling and batting techniques using motion capture suits.

After interviewing players and coaches during live workshops, I identified that analytics alone didn't improve performance. The redesign introduced structured training programs, coach discovery, and workshop scheduling to bridge the gap between knowing what was wrong and actually improving.

Impact & Outcome:

The redesign shifted Tweek Labs from a performance analysis tool into a continuous training companion:

  • Personalized drills and structured regimes
  • Coach discovery and coach-created content
  • Workshop scheduling and registration
  • New information architecture focused on player improvement

Closed a deal with Steffan Jones, fast-bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals IPL team and founder of PaceLab, to integrate his training programs into the Tweek Labs app, creating a holistic cricket training platform.

Why sports analytics isn't enough

  • Motion capture can tell players what they're doing wrong.
  • It rarely tells them how to improve.
  • Tweek Labs had already built an impressive biomechanics engine, but after players received their analysis, there was little guidance on what to do next.

How might we...

How might we help cricket players turn biomechanics insights into consistent improvement?

Discovery: We observed players and coaches during live workshops

Instead of interviewing users remotely, we attended Tweek Labs workshops and watched coaches and players use the product in real practice sessions.

This helped us understand where the experience broke down beyond the analytics dashboard.

What we discovered

From interviews we found four recurring problems.

  • Players trusted coaches more than analytics. Even when the app detected problems, players preferred asking coaches what to do next.
  • Analytics identified problems but not solutions. Players understood what they were doing incorrectly but struggled to find drills that would help improve.
  • Coaches repeated the same advice. Coaches often gave identical feedback to multiple players throughout workshops, making sessions difficult to scale.
  • Workshops disappeared after they ended. Players wanted an easier way to discover and register for future workshops.

Designing around the improvement journey

Instead of redesigning the analytics experience, we designed everything around what happens after analytics.

Iteration 1: Moving from analysis to action

Problem

The application ended its experience once performance analysis was complete. Players didn't know what to do next.

Solution

We introduced a dedicated Training experience containing personalized drills, structured regimes, coach-created content, and wellness and nutrition resources. The product shifted from an analytics dashboard into a continuous training companion.

Iteration 2: Coaches became part of the product

Problem

Players trusted coaches far more than algorithmic recommendations.

Solution

Rather than replacing coaches, we designed around them. Coach profiles, recommended drills, and training plans became first-class experiences, making expert guidance accessible beyond workshops.

Iteration 3: Making workshops discoverable

Problem

Users wanted to attend future Tweek Labs workshops but had no simple way to discover upcoming sessions.

Solution

We designed a scheduling system where players could browse workshops, filter events, register directly, and save events to their calendar. The product became a channel for continued engagement instead of a one-time experience.

Information architecture

The redesign simplified navigation around four core activities:

  • Home (analytics)
  • Training
  • Schedule
  • Profile

The analytics experience remained untouched, while the surrounding ecosystem helped players continuously improve.

Design principles

Throughout the redesign we kept three constraints in mind:

  • Preserve the existing analytics experience.
  • Keep development lightweight with simple, scalable UI.
  • Prioritize the highest-impact screens due to a short project timeline.

Looking back

If I revisited this project today, I would:

  • Validate concepts through usability testing before high-fidelity design.
  • Explore multiple navigation models before committing.
  • Prototype coach-player interactions more deeply.
  • Measure whether the new learning flows actually increased long-term engagement rather than just improving usability.

Learnings

  • Analytics don't change behaviour. People improve when insights are paired with clear next steps.
  • Don't compete with experts. The product became stronger by amplifying coaches rather than replacing them.
  • Research in context matters. Observing players during live workshops uncovered problems that wouldn't have emerged through remote interviews alone.
